Esq., was created a baronet, April 25, 1644. Most of the family property at and near Sholver, was sold to various persons by Sir Thomas Prestwich and his son, Thomas, a few years prior and subsequent to 1657.

Count Hill, a group of dwellings on the eastern border of the township, was for a long period the abode of the yeomanry family of Clegg. In 1657, Joseph Clegg purchased eight acres of land at Count-hill, of Sir Thomas Prestwich, Bart., for .£43. In 1672, William Hardy, and in 1682, Joseph Gregge, Esq., conveyed additional lands at Count-hill to Mr. Clegg. Francis Clegg, yeoman (a relative of the above J oseph), gave name to Francisses, a small place near Sholver, and was living in 1652. In 1662, Francis Clegg purchased property at Count-hill off Sir Thomas Prestwich. The property is now enjoyed by the heirs of Joseph Clegg, gentleman, who died in 1835, and who was nephew of Joseph Clegg, yeoman, who died 1817.

The late John Buckley, Esq., of Chester, who died August 6, 1805, appears to have married the ultimate heiress of Leonard Fosbrooke, Esq., of Shardlow, in Derbyshire, died 1802, whose ancestor, Leonard Fosbrooke, Esq., served as high sheriff of Derbyshire, in 1725. The present possessor of this estate, is James Greaves, Esq., of Derker. The ancient hall is now occupied as a farm, by Joseph Greaves.

Red Lee, adjacent to Mill-end, opposite the Parish Church, formerly contained a dwelling which seems to have been the abode of Richard Assheton, gentleman,
