WILLIAM ROWBOTTOM'S FAMILY

With the help of the many Rowbottom clues in the Diaries and the names in the Parish Registers, it's been possible to piece together what is believed to be a record of WILLIAM Rowbottom's life and family :

It's thought that WILLIAM's Gt. Grandparents were George and Jane Rowbottom, of Hunt Lane, Chadderton.
Jane, died in May 1729 in Hunt Lane, Chadderton, and was buried 27 May 1729 in St. Mary, Oldham.

He married Ann Ogden, on the 10 January 1724/25 in St. Mary, Prestwich.
William died in August 1756.
Ann, of Hunt Lane, Chadderton, died in 1783 and was buried on the 12th of January 1783 in St. Mary, Oldham.

WILLIAM's parents were Michael Rowbottom, born 1735, of Hunt Lane, Chadderton and his first wife, Mary Chadwick, who was born in 1732.
Michael married Mary on the 18 May 1755 in St. Mary, Prestwich.
They lived in Burnley Yate.

Michael was married again, in 1795, to Ann Whitehead at St. Mary's, Oldham.
According to Baptism registers, Michael was, variously, a weaver, and an innkeeper. He is shown as living on Burnley Lane, Hunt Lane, Northmoor, and Burnley Yate.
WILLIAM'S siblings appear to be: Jane, b. 1756, John, b. 1759, James b.1762, George b. 1765, Betty b. 1769, and Thomas b. 1773. all were baptised at St. Mary, Oldham.

WILLIAM ROWBOTTOM, writer of the diaries, was baptised on the 17th. April 1757 at St Mary's, Oldham, Lancashire. His baptism record shows us that he was the son of Michael Rowbottom & Mary, his wife, and they lived on Burnley Lane in Chadderton. Michael was a weaver.

William spent the rest of his life, as far as we know, living and working on Burnley Lane, as a weaver.
On the 10th of November, 1777, he married Ann Allcock at St. Mary's, Prestwich.
Ann was the daughter of shoemaker Richard Allcock and his wife Ann.
Ann was baptised on the 2nd of January, 1757, at St. Mary's in Oldham.
