1829 DUNN'S SURVEY
On the 9th of November, 1827, William Dunn, the 'Surveyor of Oldham' was commissioned by the Oldham Gas, Light and Waterways Company' to prepare a map which would show a "... plan of Oldham with with the adjacent places of a large scale with the houses and buildings marked theron at which Gas and Water is likely to be taken."
This map was duly prepared and was accompanied by a numbered schedule which showed the names of the owners, occupiers, type of property, field names, acreage and so on.
These maps and the schedules, published in 1829, can be referred to at the Local Studies and Archives.
In the Schedules we can see that William Rowbottom was an owner and occupier of cottages on Burnley Lane.
