From 'The Oldham Evening Chronicle' September 19th 1914 (Transcript)

This new reserve battalion of the 10th Manchester Regiment, (Oldham) has been authorised by the War Office and orders for recruiting are expected shortly. Applications from suitable gentlemen for commissions should be addressed to the Officer Commanding 10th (Reserve) Battalion Manchester Regiment, Drill Hall, Oldham and marked confidential. Preference will be given to those with previous military training and to those willing to sign the agreement for general service outside the United Kingdom. There will be plenty of vacancies for efficient non-commissioned officers and suitable ex-non-commissioned officers of the Regular and Territorial Army if found capable will be able to retain the same rank as they had on their discharge.
