Newspaper obituary:

"Mrs Allsopp, of High Street, Uppermill, on Wednesday received the following letter from Private Robertson, of the Royal Scots:

I am extremely sorry to inform you of your son's death, which took place on July 23rd. He suffered no pain whatever, as he was killed outright. We all join in sending heartfelt sympathy. I made a nice cross and buried him just behind the firing line. I trust you will bear this sad news with a brave heart.

Private Allsopp was formerly a tailor in the employ of Messrs Thornton and Wrigley, Uppermill. He was brought up at the Uppermill Congregational Sunday School and, having a natural gift for the drama, was a regular participant in the Sunday School entertainments. He took an active interest in everything relating to both church ad Sunday school. He had only been in France for about three months."
