Newspaper obituary:

"Official intimation has been received by Mrs Tyler of 15 Nova Scotia, Failsworth, that her husband, Corporal Alfred Tyler, Manchester, was killed on July 4th.

He enlisted in the first year of the war and went to France on the 15th July 1915. He was 37 years of age and had worked as a labourer for Mr Thomas Whitehead, contractor, Failsworth, and for the Failsworth District Council. He leaves a widow and three children.

He was well known as a footballer and was formerly goalkeeper for Newton Heath Athletic and had played for Failsworth Club and Oldham Athletic. One of his brothers is serving in the Manchester Regiment, another is a drill instructor, and his brother-in-law is in Lilley Lane, Hospital, Moston, wounded."
