Newspaper obituary:

"Private Thomas Maher, of the York and Lancaster Regiment, was killed in action on July 1st. He was well-known in the Hollinwood district, where he resided until about seven years ago, when he and wife and three children went to Kinsley, near Hemsworth, Yorkshire. He was a collier up to enlisting, soon after the outbreak of war.

In his younger days he was well-known in the Oldham district as a heavy-weight wrestler. He was 41 years of age. His brother resides at 12 Wilton, Street, Hollinwood."
