Manchester Regiment 23rd Bn.

Newspaper obituary:

"On Wednesday Mr R. Lowe, of Wilkins Street, Breeze Hill Road, Oldham, received information that his son, Private Fred Lowe, of the Manchester Regiment, was lying dangerously wounded in France. Facilities were offered for both father and mother to go to France, but owing to illness they were unable to accept the offer. On Thursday afternoon they received further intimation that their son was dead.

Private Fred Lowe was associated from boyhood with the Christian Brethren Congregational Sunday School, and at the time he joined the army was a teacher. His death is much regretted by the officials of the church and Sunday school. He was employed as a piecer at the Athens Mill, Lees, before enlisting on his birthday October 4th 1915. He was 24 years of age and had been three months in France."
