Newspaper obituary:

"Private Tom Hamer (17879), King's Own Royal Lancaster Regiment, late of 55 Cambridge Street, Werneth, was killed in action on July 1st. He was formerly a minder at Granville Mill, and enlisted in February, 1915.

His widow has received the following letter from deceased's company officer, Lieutenant T. O.C. Curtis:

I very much regret to have to inform you that your husband has been killed in action. He died nobly, going forward and doing his duty. He was in my platoon and always did his duty cheerfully and willingly. He is buried not far from here and has a cross erected over his grave. You have my deepest sympathy in your bereavement."
