Newspaper obituary:

"Miss C. D. Marr, of 27, Fielding-street, Oldham has had official notification that her nephew, Pioneer David Platt (128034), Special Brigade Royal Engineers, had died of wounds received in action on June 26, 1916. Platt was 27 years of age and enlisted in September, 1914. He was wounded at Ypres and went back to the fighting line last Christmas. Before enlisting he worked for Messrs. S. and J. Smethurst Ltd. as an iron-fixer."
