Newspaper obituary:

"Private William Newton (14005), Manchester Regiment, of 25 Caroline Street, Rochdale Road, Oldham, died at Netley Hospital on Saturday of a shell wound in the back received early in the big advance.

He was 22 years of age and before enlisting in the early days of the Oldham Comrades Battalion he was a piecer in the employ of the Royal Mills Co.

He was buried on Wednesday at Chadderton Church, a party of six soldiers from the Oldham Drill Hall attending. "
