THE PEACE CRUSADE IN OLDHAM - NEWSPAPER LETTERS
OLDHAM CHRONICLE
9th August 1917 (Thursday)
THE PEACE MEETING
Sir, In last night's paper you published a letter signed 'Kaiser Wilhelm'. Before I had called myself by that name I would have put my own like a British man and stood by it. I think the soldiers just did right and the public as well. We don't want any peace cranks in in Oldham. We all want peace but it must be for good, not so that the enemy can start again when our children are grown to be men. Then 'Disgusted' says that the Colonials are in danger of losing their good name by by their disreputable conduct. I for one don't think so, as the common feeling is that the pacifists got all they deserved, and if they start prating peace near the Park Gates it would perhaps hold a few in the lake. We all want peace time and we shall have it if we leave it to the brave lads at the front. they will see to it all right.
Yours,
A SOLDIER'S WIFE
