THE PEACE CRUSADE IN OLDHAM - NEWSPAPER LETTERS
OLDHAM CHRONICLE
THE PEACE MEETING
Sir, - Could you allow us through the medium of your paper to express our opinion on the attack made by the New Zealand soldiers at the Pacifists' meeting on Monday night? We read a letter in your Tuesday's issue protesting against their conduct, but we are very much in sympathy with the soldiers and had we been there we would have gladly joined them. We have both been out to France and done a bit and both been badly wounded. We have seen the work the Hun is capable of and we don't want peace at any price. What we want is a lasting peae. We think that Oldham ought to be proud to entertain such troops as the New Zealanders. If necessary we both feel that we would sooner go out again than have a patched up peace. Oldham people seem to forget the substantial sums that the New Zealanders have helped to raise for the Oldham Infirmary by the games they have played on the Coppice and at Watersheddings since they have been in the town, which shows their great appreciation for the Oldham people, and we think they are quite justified in what they did.
