CONSCIENTIOUS OBJECTION IN WW1

Joseph Simister

Oldham Tribunal 9 March 1916
Reported Oldham Standard 10 March 1916

An insurance agent of Redgrave Street, Oldham

He had a conscientious objection to service either as a combatant, a non-combatant or a munitions worker.
He would rather be shot than shoot somebody else.
He would help an injured man if he could.
Does your conscience tell you that you ought not to go into non-combatant service and do hospital work instead?
- No I cannot say that it does.

He was passed for non-combatant service.
