Edgar was the son of John Edward & Esther Mary Thompson (nee Smithies) of 79, Turner St., Waterhead, Oldham.
In 1911 he was living at 2, Laureates Place, Woodbrook, Springhead, with his parents, older sister Helena, young cousin Ida and
younger brothers Roland, Sidney and Ernest.
Edgar was employed in the cotton mill.
He was the cousin of Josiah and Wilfred Smithies.
He died of wounds, received in action, 27th October 1918, age 25.
Edgar is buried in Tezze British Cemetery, Italy
